David Morgan has been chosen to fight the Wimbish & Debden by-election as the Liberal Democrat candidate
The Liberal Democrats have chosen local retired solicitor David Morgan to be their candidate for the by-election for the Wimbish & Debden ward of Uttlesford District Council to be held on Thursday 27th October.
The election has been called to fill the seat previously held by Councillor David Corke, who has resigned due to health problems.
Following his selection David Morgan said "The Liberal Democrats have taken major steps to modernise the council to ensure that it serves the interests of all residents in the District. I am keen to join the team and to take forward the excellent work started by my colleague David Corke. My interests include environmental issues, protecting our quality of life, and working with young people. I have the time, experience, knowledge and commitment to be a hard-working councillor for Debden & Wimbish."
"I hope that voters will note the progress that has been made in the past two years. Under the current Liberal Democrat administration, Uttlesford District Council has the lowest Council Tax in Essex and has been praised by the Audit Commission, a government watchdog, as being a 'fair' authority, just one point below 'good'. They recognised that Uttlesford is now a council with a current rapid pace of change with performance that is likely to improve. By contrast the Commission described the previous Conservative-Independent-led administration as providing "a one-star service with uncertain prospects for improvement."
He added that "There is still much to be done. The Liberal Democrat team is determined that Uttlesford will be an 'Excellent' council. Local residents deserve no less".
David Morgan lives in nearby Thaxted with his wife Elisabeth. Until his retirement in 2002, David was a senior partner in a long-established firm of solicitors in Chelmsford. He is a co-founder of Springboard Housing Association and is a trustee of a number of charities.
He regularly attends Thaxted Parish Church, where he is a member of the parochial church council. He has previously been a churchwarden and has been elected to the General Synod. David is a member of Greenpeace, The National Trust and Essex Wildlife Trust.
