Hill Street Culvert Repairs Hit Local Shops

Liberal Democrat Councillors Stephen Jones and Barbara Hughes inspect the culvert repairs. These repairs should have been carried out in the summer - not at the busiest time of the trading year.

Conservative-led Essex County Council's decision to shut Hill Street for culvert repairs in the run-up to Christmas has hit local businesses and disrupted the flow of traffic through the town centre.

Liberal Democrat-led Saffron Walden Town Council is working with the Business Forum to remind residents of local villages that Saffron Walden is still a great place to shop.

Chair of Liberal Democrat-led Uttlesford District Council's Policy Committee, Councillor Stephen Jones, has been campaigning for affected shops to be given a partial rebate of the business rates that they pay. As a result, the Council will be writing to businesses explaining how they can get a rebate from the Valuation Officer.
