Cllr Peter Wilcock has been elected as the new leader of Uttlesford District Council's Liberal Democrat group
Councillors on Uttlesford Liberal Democrat Council Group elected Cllr Peter Wilcock as their Group Leader and Cllrs. Martin Foley and Andrew Yarwood as Deputy Group Leaders following their annual meeting last week.
Cllr Mark Gayler commented " I am pleased to be handing over the reigns to Peter Wilcock and the new team at this important stage of the Council's development, where we have delivered so much over the last four years on recycling, investment in decent homes, and the lowest council tax in Essex. I am happy to support Peter in the coming years where effective and constructive opposition will be so vital to the people of Uttlesford."
The new leader Cllr Peter Wilcock said " I am pleased to be able to lead the main opposition group, and will work hard to ensure that all the things that liberal Democrats have worked so hard for in the last four years and not wasted. We will provide constructive opposition and challenge to the Tories and try to ensure that they do not cut services to our residents or increase taxes, but where we agree on common issues like the opposition to the second runway at Stansted, we will support them and the residents in Uttlesford."
At the Council meeting, Cllr Alan Dean was elected as Chair of the important Scrutiny Committee and Cllr Mark Gayler was elected Chair of the local area panel for Great Dunmow.
