Woodlands Park traffic-calming measures have been agreed after 18 months of campaigning by local residents, backed up by Liberal Democrat councillors.
A scheme of traffic calming measures for Woodlands Park Drive has finally been agreed by Essex County Council, after an 18 month campaign by local residents, backed up by local councillors.
Three speed tables and four tarmac cushions will be implemented in Woodlands Park Drive, and one speed table will be placed in Willow Road. Wickford Development Company will commence work on implementing the scheme during the next month, and hope to have completed the work before the new school term begins in September.
Cllr Mark Gayler said: "I am delighted that the traffic calming proposals can now finally be implemented. It has taken far too long, but we have finally got there. This is a victory for all the local residents who have fought hard for action to be taken."
Cllr Ron Clover said: "This as a testament to people power. There are still people haring down here in their cars at great speed, so hopefully this will slow them down. Whilst there has not yet been a serious accident, there have been some near misses. With so many children using the road, we never wanted to wait for a tragic accident to take place before something was done."
