The Department for Communities and Local Government this week (20th Nov) published a paper discussing the value of lifetime communities that are designed to accommodate people of every age.
Lifetime communities are those which offer everyone the best possible chance of health, well-being, social, economic and civic engagement regardless of age. They provide the built environment, infrastructure, housing, services and shared social space that allow people to pursue a high quality of life.
Cllr Peter Wilcock, Leader of the Liberal Democrats commented, "Uttlesford District Council's consultation on where to put 4200 houses commences on 30th November. It is essential that those houses are near the shops, clinics, schools and community centres which are needed to sustain local communities."
He added "Recent history shows that developers fight tooth and nail to avoid providing such community facilities, so I cannot see how a new settlement such as that proposed near Elsenham would meet these requirements."
