Lynne Featherstone MP and Peter Wilcock, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Saffron Walden
Saffron Walden Liberal Democrats held a Local Feast on Saturday in the company of Lynne Featherstone, Lib Dem MP for Hornsey and Wood Green. Guests were served a three course meal, for which all of the ingredients were produced locally - with the exception of the coffee and chocolate, which were Fair Trade.
Lynne Featherstone spoke about the role of the armed forces in Afghanistan and the need to find a political solution in that troubled land. In response to a question from Stansted councillor Alan Dean, Lynne - who is one of the MPs who were given a clean bill of health by the Daily Telegraph - also spoke about the damaging effect on democracy of the MPs' expenses scandal.
Peter Wilcock, who has recently returned from the Liberal International Congress in Cairo, gave the vote of thanks.
Chairman of Saffron Walden Branch Liberal Democrats, Mike Hibbs said "It was remarkably easy to find local suppliers of meat and vegetables, and we were able to buy locally made wine and beer. The hardest thing to find was dairy products, but we did eventually obtain cheese from Norfolk. Best of all, we were able to buy all of it from local shops."
