Peter Wilcock and the Liberal Democrats were the first major party to oppose Stansted expansion.
"Seven years after the Liberal Democrats pledged to fight the building of any more runways in the South East, including at Stansted Airport, the Labour Party has finally admitted its mistake and come out against Stansted expansion. It's amazing what an election can do!" comments Peter Wilcock, Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Saffron Walden constituency.
"I am calling on BAA to drop its Runway Two planning application, to remove the blight from towns and villages near Stansted Airport."
The Liberal Democrat shadow transport secretary Norman Baker said: "Any party that supports a third runway at Heathrow cannot be serious about climate change. Only the Liberal Democrats can guarantee there will be no airport expansion across London and the South East."
Peter Wilcock summed up "It is clear from the way that their position has changed so frequently that neither the Conservatives - many of whom are in denial about climate change - nor Labour have any principled objection to airport expansion."
