At a meeting chaired by Stansted Parish Council Chairman, Councillor Geoffrey Sell, West Essex Primary Care Trust announced that its attempts to find premises for new health facilities in the centre of the village are unlikely to be successful.
Geoffrey Sell said "The PCT have said that they will have one more attempt to find premises in the village centre by July. Whilst the Parish Plan questionnaire did show a strong preference for a site near the current village centre, the worst possible outcome would be the loss of funding for a new surgery altogether".
Councillor John Hudson added: "Everybody has been looking for a site for a new health centre for over eight years. The only available location at this time that seems suitable is at Walson Way on Foresthall Park.
"It would be in nobody's interest to lose PCT funding and have local residents put up with more years of climbing stairs at the cramped and inadequate surgery in St. John's Road."
Councillor Alan Dean summed up "With the NHS under financial pressure, and the threat of yet another local NHS reorganisation, we are pressing for action NOW to get the new health centre built."
