Simon Wright MP Speaks At Annual Dinner

Simon Wright, the Liberal Democrat MP for Norwich South, was the guest speaker at Saffron Walden Constituency Liberal Democrats' Annual Dinner on Saturday 12th November.

Mr Wright, who is Parliamentary Private Secretary to Minister of State for Children and Families, Sarah Teather, spoke about the many Liberal Democrat policies that are now being implemented as government policy. Schools across Saffron Walden constituency will be given £435,000 extra this year, fulfilling one of the top four Lib Dem pledges at last year's general election. Nationwide 140,000 two-year-olds from families earning £16,190 or less will be offered 15 hours of free nursery education every week.

Mr Wright also highlighted the way the Lib Dems are blocking the most extreme Conservative policies - the most recent being the recent plan by venture capitalist and Tory donor Adrian Beecroft to make it easier for employers to sack workers.

Giving the vote of thanks, Saffron Walden Lib Dem Councillor Mike Hibbs said "As governments and councils have to make hard choices, the Liberal Democrat value of social justice is needed now more than ever - for example our policy of taking thousands of low earners out of taxation. We will stand up to those whose only idea of growth is to build lots of five-bedroom houses because that will bring wealthy people to this area."
