"I'm delighted to be back in this part of the High Street" said Mike. "It's great to have a base in the Town Centre where voters can meet the candidate and find out how to support my campaign to be your new Lib Dem MP. Lots of people have been asking what they can do to help. Come to our HQ at 29 High Street and join our fast-growing campaign team!"

  • Stop Brexit flow chart

Local Lib Dems were in Saffron Walden Market on Saturday talking about the latest Lib Dem position on Brexit. Actually, it's not really news to anyone that the Lib Dems want to stop Brexit - and now Jo Swinson has made it absolutely clear. Lib Dems will campaign in the next General Election to Stop Brexit by revoking Article 50. And if Lib Dems are the outright winners and form a majority government, with Jo Swinson as Prime Minister, the nation's voters will have given us a mandate to do exactly that, Stop Brexit.
If we win more seats in Parliament but not an outright majority, we will continue to push for a People's Vote on Brexit, with the option to Remain on the ballot paper. And we will campaign to Remain.
The deal we have now as members of the European Union is far, far better than anything that has even been suggested - never mind agreed. Calling a halt to the Brexit process is one way to take the heat out of the debate and start the process of national reconciliation.

Since the day Boris Johnson PM announced the prorogation of Parliament, local residents have gathered outside the Town Hall in Saffron Walden to express their support for Parliamentary Democracy. This pro-democracy vigil is not associated with any political party. People all over the country, and of all political persuasions and none, have been shocked by the proposal to shut Parliament down at this crucial time. The vigil has been held every weekday evening from 5:30 to 6:00 pm, with participants of all ages holding umbrellas in the sunshine, and home-made placards.

The restored Victorian Chapel at the Almshouses in Saffron Walden was buzzing with lively conversation on a sunny Sunday afternoon as Lib Dem members and supporters gathered for a traditional English Strawberry Tea of home-made scones, meringues, and locally sourced strawberries.

Mike Hibbs welcomed the many new members present. "The two great threats to all our futures are Global Heating and Brexit. We urgently need a united front - locally and nationally, to tackle these dangers. Together we can build a better future."
