Bring Back our PCSOs

Raising Alarm Bells

The proposed takeover of the Fire Service by the Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner raises "alarm bells over his empire building" says Melvin Caton, Liberal Democrat candidate for Stansted, Newport, Elsenham, Henham and the villagesat the Essex County Council elections in May.

He said that "Much is made of the financial case for the takeover of the Fire Service by the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) but important questions about the future delivery of the fire service are not covered by the business case.

"Given the PCC's track record of Police station closures and slashing police numbers in Uttlesford, unlike in Hertfordshire where they have maintained the number of PCSOs. It is essential that residents are told what the long term impact of the takeover will have on the "on call fire stations" in the district including Stansted, Newport and Saffron Walden which have already lost their Police Stations. If the proposed changes were proposed in the commercial world they would be called asset stripping," he added.

Instead of trying to increase his empire by taking over the Fire Service Uttlesford Liberal Democrats think that our Conservative Police Crime Commissioner should be delivering his top priorities in his own Police and Crime Plan which are (1) More local, visible and accessible policing and (2) Cracking down on anti-social behaviour by bringing back our Police Community Support Officers. Please sign our petition.

I being a resident of Uttlesford district wish to have a more local, visible and accessible police presence in the district and call for our PCSOs to be brought back. We believe that these officers did a good job supporting community policing in our villages and protecting citizens from problems such as theft and anti social behaviour.

Thank you for your interest but we are no longer running this campaign.
