Democratically and Politically Unwise to Issue an Airport Expansion Decision Notice that Short-Changes Residents

Local Liberal Democrats want a planning legal agreement between Uttlesford District Council (UDC) and Manchester Airport Group at Stansted Airport that does not short-change residents. They have called for a halt to Stansted Airport being issued with a premature Planning Decision Notice by UDC. The Lib Dems say a Decision Notice to allow the go-ahead for airport expansion should be held back until a robust planning agreement has been negotiated and approved by the council's planning committee. On Sunday (April 7th), Stansted district councillor Alan Dean emailed political leaders Cllrs Howard Rolfe and John Lodge, the chairman and vice chairman of the council's planning committee, Cllrs Alan Mills and Janice Loughlin, and the chief executive, Dawn French, calling for a pause. Uttlesford Lib Dem library petition handed over to Essex County Council

More than 1,000 people in Uttlesford have signed the Lib Dem petition calling for the County Council to abandon its plans to close Libraries in Essex. It was handed to Essex County Cllr. Stephen Robinson outside Saffron Walden Library by Councillors and local campaigners from Saffron Walden, Stansted and Thaxted.

Local people are firmly against the County Council's plan to close half the Libraries in Essex. On Saturday local Lib Dems collected nearly 400 signatures for their petition against the cuts.
